I bet you have some questions.
Who are you?
I grew up in Provo (Timpanogos Elementary, Dixon Middle School, Provo High, BYU alum). I’m Frank and Dee Dee’s daughter. I’ve been a journalist (primarily public and nonprofit radio) for 20+ years. I worked at KCPW in Salt Lake City, WFAE in Charlotte, NC, and most recently I’ve been the host of Top of Mind and Uncomfy at BYUradio. I own a home in Provo. I love being an aunt and hanging out with my siblings (two also live in Provo). I’ve been a Utah County Elections poll worker since 2024. I take being a good neighbor and active citizen seriously. My hobbies include gardening, paddleboard, knitting and watching British detective shows.
Why do you write Julie’s Provo Notes?
Because I really love policy and I love Provo and I happen to be really good at making complicated stuff interesting. When I looked around last year to decide how I might get more involved locally, I looked at applying to one of Provo’s many citizen boards and commissions, but I realized that attending meetings and writing summaries was the perfect blend of what I’m good at and what I enjoy doing. And it feels like it’s useful to others.
Do you work for Provo City?
No. I work for BYUradio hosting and producing podcasts.
How are you making money?

What’s your agenda? Are you planning to run for office?
No. I do not plan to run for office of any kind. Politics is not my happy place. I’m passionate about policy and civic engagement.
So are you pushing a specific policy?
No. I’m interested in helping everyday residents of Provo have accurate and timely information so they can make up their own minds and advocate for their own positions. Sometimes I do have an opinion about a topic I’m covering and, in those cases, I take extra care to make sure my posts are as balanced and neutral as possible. Luckily, I’ve been a journalist for 20+ years, so I’ve had a lot of practice presenting things in a balanced way!

Do you plan to start charging for Julie’s Provo Notes?
No. I want as many people as possible to have access to this information so they can become more informed and engaged. Eventually I plan to offer a paid subscriber option for people who would like to support my work.
